History of inmates

Sample imageSai is now 2 years old. He was abandoned at the age of 1 by his parents in a basket, outside an organization which salvaged unwanted children and since this organization could not take care of him they handed him over to a government run orphanage in the woman and child welfare centre. Here the children were given first preference for adoption by parents but Sai stood no chance of adoption since he was spastic and the organization decided to hand him over to my organization

AlaknandaAlaknanda, the youngest baby girl-9 months old, was found by the police on the railway tracks
of Vizag when she was about 2-3 days old. She was covered with blood all over her body and when taken to the hospital was discovered with Sepsis in her body and was out under treatment for a month in the hospital. She was handed over to the woman and child welfare centre after she was well. From there she was taken for adoption by a couple but dropped back at the centre after they discovered that child was spastic and since she didn’t stand any chance with adoption, she is now with Icha.

Mahesh Mahesh is a 4 year old boy who is extremely sharp and intelligent but is mute. He was discovered by Childline abandoned on the street at age 2. He was also handed to the woman and child welfare centre and since he was handicapped he was offered to Icha.

Subhalakshmi’s father died when she was barely 16 years old. She was the couple’s adopted child. Her mother was not well to do so she got her married to her cousin who turned out to be a sadist and was abused by him even when she was pregnant. That’s when she moved away from him and shifted to her mother, never wanting to go back. She gave birth to Neeraj and that’s when Subhalakshmi’s mother was discovered with brain cancer and she died in February 2012. Subhalakshmi was left with no support and a child in her arms. I discovered her in the woman and child welfare centre where she had come to seek help and shelter.

The spastic children are on physiotherapy treatment as of now. One of the physiotherapists has volunteered to do free service and is confident that he will be able to make Sai walk. The two elder kids, Mahesh and Neeraj, are going to a wonderful playschool which is one of the best in Vizag and is run by my friend and trustee in my foundation, Poonam Shah Srinath.
