Basheera

We provide food, shelter and education to normal kids who belong to our staff members such as Basheera and Samira. Both the girls attend school at the village nearby and make for perfect companions to our other children, teaching them social skills in return.

Kumar & Bangaram

Shanti is a widow with two young children, Kumar and Bangaram. She was finding it difficult to fend for herself and the children. Icha has adopted all three of them. Shanti assists the caretakers in caring for the children. Although Kumar & Bangaram are perfectly normal kids, they were denied a decent life by their uncle who took charge of them after their father died. With them at Icha, we believe we’re getting closer to achieveing diversity and inclusion for our specially abled kids.

Tara

Tara, was abandoned inside compartment on a train from Chennai to Vizag. She came to Icha via Childline and suffers from cerebral palsy. She will need lifelong support. She responds well to instruction and is more co operative than many of our other kids in a similar situation.

Shyam

Shyam, 5, also came to us from Shishu Gruha Vizag. Abandoned by his family on a railway platform he suffers from acute mental retardation and cerebral palsy. As a result he is paralyzed and needs constant support for all life functions. The only prescription so far is Physiotherapy. He seems happy despite his handicaps.

Tanushree

Tanushree is a 7 month old baby with mixed gender issues. Her mother died at childbirth while her father is on the run being a suspected criminal. Her uncle handed her over to Shishu Gruha in Vizag with no one willing to adopt her. Icha accepted her and a chromosome test later she was confirmed as a girl child. Doctors have advised us to nurture her like a girl but recheck when she turns 9. A surgery may be recommended in the event of any abnormalities.

Girija

Girija, a motherless child, was handed over to Shishu Guha in Vizag by her grandfather a few months after her father absconded. Though she is of stable mind her milestones are delayed due to severe malnourishment. She has an enlarged spleen, lymph nodes and liver and is undergoing treatment for a non contagious form of TB. She will also undergo tests to rule out blood cancer. She is responding well to her new surroundings.

Tejashree

Tejashree is a Kondakarla village child. She is a semi-orphan whose father was convicted in the murder of her mother. She was adopted by Icha on request from Kondakarla village elders. She has cerebral palsy and is prone to fits. She needs constant supervision and quick medical care. Even if her mental condition shows little progress we stand committed to nourish her. She has a strong body and rolls on the floor as her limbs are paralyzed. She has a healthy appetite.

Basheera

Basheera is a semi-orphan from a nearby village and is related to Icha’s cook, Amina. Suffering from mental retardation and not having anyone to take care of her she was adopted by Icha. Basheera needs psychiatric assistance to help her cope with her mental condition. She is an enthusiastic dancer and painter. We plan on giving her formal training in dance. She needs constant attention and behavioral correction.

Alka

Alka was found by the police on the railway tracks of Vizag. She was adopted from the Woman and Child Welfare Centre by a family, only to be returned when they realized she was hopelessly spastic. Icha adopted her when she was 9 months old. Though she is on regular musculoskeletal and neurological physiotherapy it has made little difference to her motor movements. She will need to be supported throughout her life. Icha provides nurturing care and compassion to make Alka’s life as comfortable as possible. She may not develop the mental faculties to learn life skills.

Teja

Teja, was abandoned in a train. He was handed over to the police to Shishu Kendra and subsequently adopted by Icha at the age of 5. He was diagnosed with mental disorder but can walk. He is on regular musculoskeletal and neurological physiotherapy to correct his physical deformities but may not develop mental faculties to learn life skills.
